Peru
Winter Break
About the Trip
Started by North Park alumnus Daniel Kasnick and his wife Denisse, Camp D&D “creates environments that enhance wellbeing by discovering and developing community for all socioeconomic levels of society including school, family, youth, and themed camps. We promote awareness, appreciation, and social responsibility of ourselves, others, and the world through meaningful experiences based on reflective practices, team-building activities, and environmental connections. These experiences aim to reshape our world view and perspectives that will stay with us for a lifetime.”
North Park students are invited every year to participate as camp counselors, animators, and crew for this creative, community-building camp during Peru’s summer, which is Chicago winter. Students travel down to Peru after Christmas to prepare the camp for the first round of campers and work with Peruvian camp staff to create a warm and welcoming environment. This nine-day trip includes prep, camp, and a few days of visiting both Incan wonders and colonial Lima. This trip is suitable for anyone with a heart for kids and a spirit of adventure.
Student Testimony
“For me, Camp D&D was all about inclusivity and stewardship. They emphasized personal relationships with everyone regardless of status and appearance. I really admired the holistic approach that the camp incorporated. They were passionate about taking care of the planet, respecting others, and taking care of yourself. What Camp D&D is doing is so important and something I wish everyone could experience.”
